“Discovering the Marmots” is definitely a simple and easy walk recommended for families with children and teenagers, for the curious, for all lovers of nature and animals, but also for those who love the Dolomites. A walk during which you can admire the uniqueness of the landscapes and the majesty of the Dolomites, UNESCO World Heritage, relaxing and finding a feeling of inner peace and serenity.
The immense vertical walls, the climbers’ paradise, the peaks, the unique colors of the rocks, the green meadows, the shelters at altitude and the pleasant encounters in this magical valley will steal your heart and leave you a sweet memory of the holiday spent here in Trentino !
A day spent in the sign of adventure to have a close encounter with the marmots!
Starting with car here from Cèsa Planber, in the heart of Canazei, climb up towards Passo Sella (12 km). At the height of the Rio Antermont, shortly after the Pian Schiavaneis restaurant (7 km), there is free parking. It is from here that the walk of about 5-10 minutes starts, following the path towards the river and the waterfall, which leads to the rocky wall of the Sella group, an area where there are several clearings where the meeting is assured with marmots, as long as you go early in the morning.
It will also be possible to get closer and bring him some healthy snack: stale bread or a piece of carrot! If you are lucky then you will have the opportunity to find some nice marmots, and gently you can get closer to see from the face the nose, small ears and round, the typical long tail and thick fur and rudiva, as well as long claws!
Looking closer you can see nearby marmots among the rocks. These, however, may be less audacious and will surface on the surface with caution from the underground tunnels, where they will go to hide as soon as they feel a more abrupt movement or an attempt to get too close.
What to bring: We recommend comfortable clothing, a backpack with rain jacket and boots or trekking shoes. Unforgettable mobile phone or photo camera for a truly unique selfie!
