– SASS PORDOI AND PIZ BOÉ
Description: from our house you can reach Passo Pordoi (12km) or the Canazei-Pecol cableway n. 101 (20 m)
Piz Boé, the only three-thousander in the Sella Group, is one of the most popular peaks in the entire mountains of the Dolomites. With its characteristic lunar-shaped landscape, it can be reached from all the four ridges that converge on the summit of the renowned pyramid, the mountain path n. 638 runs along the ridges overlooking the Mesules plateau.
From Passo Pordoi you can easily take the cable car up to Sass Pordoi (2,948 m), descending on path no. 627/A to the nearby Forcella Pordoi. Alternatively, it is possible to reach this point by climbing along path no. 627 della Forcella directly from Passo Pordoi. Then continue on path no. 627. Then leave path no. 627 for trail no. 638 which leads to the base of the Piz Boè pyramid. You have to go up the southern slope made up of steps and debris ledges and equipped with a metal cable to facilitate the ascent, reaching the top at the Capanna Piz Fassa refuge. After an obligatory stop to admire the extraordinary circular panorama, continue descending along the north-west slope through a terrain of rubble and reddish sand beyond which you pass, crossing a ledge equipped with a metal rope and ladders, a rocky leap to reach the Rifugio Boè. Return to Forcella Pordoi on path no. 627, crossing the wide steps on the level ground which form the base of Piz Boè. Return to the cable car station by going up trail 627/A which winds along the rocks up to Sass Pordoi, or by continuing along trail no. 627 up to Passo Pordoi. Here it is possible to visit, free of charge and with reductions with the Val di Fassa Guest Card, the Museum of the Great War, the military ossuary dedicated to the fallen, the warm little church “Queen of the Snow” and the monument to the cyclist Fausto Coppi. It is possible to return to our structure directly by public transport, free with the Val di Fassa Guest Card, or by private taxi. Eventually you can continue the walk by returning along the path in the woods from Passo Pordoi which, skirting the lake of Pordoi, intersects with route no. 655 coming from Col Rodella, which leads up to Canazei.
– TOUR OF SASSOLUNGO AND SASSOPIATTO
Description: from our house you can reach Passo Sella (13km)
The literal meaning of Sassolungo and Sassopiatto becomes obvious and inevitable when you walk this stone giant far and wide. The tour around the Sassolungo and the Sassopiatto is a unique excursion of its kind, capable of exceeding the expectations of high-altitude trekking enthusiasts in terms of excursions by far. The trail winds its way through the breathtaking peaks of the Dolomites, skirting magnificent valleys and reaching the most evocative mountain refuges in the area. The Sassolungo and Sassopiatto ring is undoubtedly an excursion not to be missed, especially for those who love challenges.
The long variant runs along the perimeter of the entire Sassolungo and Sassopiatto group and, although it is the smallest mountain group in the Dolomites, it is nonetheless a very long excursion. Once you reach Passo Sella, you start on the first stretch of the tour which runs along the well-known Friedrich August path. This starts next to the Valentini Hut and leads to the Rodella Pass. From here, continue along the Friedrich August path, trail no. 557. Punta Grohmann, Torre Innerkofler and the Dente del Sassolungo soar to the north, all peaks over 3,000 meters high. This flat path takes you to the Sassopiatto refuge, behind which the gigantic meadows of the Alpe di Siusi extend, the largest plateau in the ‘Europe, while to the south you can admire the magnificent Val Duron and the characteristic mountains that surround it from above. From here continue on trail no. 9, a forest road that you leave after just 200 meters turning right, to return to path no. 527. The path continues under the Sasso Piatto, heading north-west, up to Piz da Uridl. Continue for a short descent before the path turns north-east and leads to path no. 526. After the crossroads, walk north, taking route 526 towards the Comici refuge. The route runs alongside the path to Col de Mesdi, which reaches an altitude of 2,114m above sea level. From that point on the route becomes slightly more difficult, but upon arrival at the Col de Mesdi you are immediately rewarded with a magnificent view of the north face of the Sassolungo. At that point hikers have two options available: follow trail no. 526A or stay on no. 526, if you prefer to continue on flat ground. The Comici refuge is only a short climb away and is the ideal place for a regenerating break before setting off again towards Passo Sella. For the last 2.5 kilometers of the route, trail no. 526A merges with the main path, the n. 526. Once you leave the Comici refuge behind you, walk for a few minutes until you reach a crossroads. Our advice is to follow the cross-country path, which leads to the starting point of Passo Sella and crosses the suggestive landscapes of the Città dei Sassi. Returning to the starting Pass, the entire route thus ends. It is possible to return to our structure directly by public transport, free with the Val di Fassa Guest Card, or with a private taxi or by car. Eventually you can return by taking a quiet and relaxing walk along the Salei area, to reach Pian de Frataces, with the possibility of admiring the well-known basalt waterfalls , before actually reaching the town of Canazei.
– CIAMPEDIE – PRINCIPE PASS – ANTERMOIA LAKE – VAL DURON – CAMPITELLO
Description: from our house you can reach Campitello di Fassa (2km) or Vigo di Fassa (12.5km)
Classic excursion which, starting from the Gardeccia basin, leads to one of the most enchanting lakes in the Dolomites. The alpine mirror, heart-shaped and with crystal clear waters, is hidden among the isolated stones of the Catinaccio and, according to legend, was formed thanks to a nymph.
Reached the Gardeccia basin from Ciampedie (ascent by cable car from Vigo and trail n. 540; 0.50 hours, the only section suitable for children) or from Pera using the chairlifts (0.25 hours), continue on the wide mule track marked trail n. 546 which leads to the Preuss and Vajolet refuges, on the rocky spur of the Porte Neigre. Go up along the trail n. 584, in constant ascent, the right side of the upper Vaiolét valley, at the head of which the massive mass of the Catinaccio d’Antermoia becomes more and more imposing. Overcoming a steep final serpentine you reach the Passo Principe refuge, leaning against a rock wall a few meters from the pass of the same name. Go right passing the base of the great wall of the Catinaccio d’Antermoia and then go up the scree slope along a steep zigzag up to Passo Antermoia. Then you have to go down the other side into the Valon de Antermoa, a flat and melancholy stony ground, skirt the lake where according to ancient legends the witches of Fassa met and, after crossing the emissary, reach the Antermoia refuge. Leaving the refuge, head on trail no. 580 towards the nearby Pas de Dona. Descending over gravel and turf, the head of the Val de Dona is cut obliquely to the left, leaving trail no. 580 which descends to Mazzin through Val Udai, to join path no. 578. Pas de Ciaréjoles is reached in a few minutes. On a volcanic rock path you then descend to the Ciamp de Grévena pasture and, then, across a hillock covered with thick alders, to the Ruf de Duron stream. Beyond the bridge, turn right onto the mostly flat dirt road on trail no. 532 which runs through the whole valley. You pass next to the Baita da Lino Brach and then reach the Micheluzzi refuge. Descend towards Campitello along a dirt road characterized by steep ramps. Thus ends the whole journey. It is possible to carry out the entire excursion in reverse starting from Campitello. – VAJOLÉT TOWERS AT THE GARTL BASIN
Description: from our house you can reach Vigo di Fassa (12.5km)
It is the only hiking access route to the Rifugio Re Alberto and the fairy-tale Gartl basin, one of the most evocative and well-known places in the Fassa Dolomites, in the presence of the mythical Vaiolet Towers.
You reach the Gardeccia basin from Ciampedie for the comfortable and wide trail n. 540 or going up from Pera with the two chairlifts (0.25 hours to add to the final time). Continue on the dirt road marked trail n. 546; you pass the initial steep crag and enter the extraordinary environment of the Valle del Vaiolét, along a rather flat mule track, surmounted by the rocky spur of the Porte Neigre. Always keeping to the left, go up the gravel escarpment along well-designed hairpin bends. This brings you to path no. 541 coming from Passo Cigolade, Pas da le Zigolade in the local Ladin language and, shortly after, you reach the grassy plateau on which the Preuss and Vajolet refuges stand. We start on the path n. 584 of Passo Principe, to leave it after a few tens of meters and enter, on the left, the steep gorge of the towers on path n. 542, continuing cautiously on smooth and polished rocks, using a metal rope to help you in the more demanding stretches. Then you arrive at the Re Alberto I Refuge (Gartlhütte), nestled in the Gartl basin, between the famous Vaiolét Towers, the north face of the Catinaccio and the jagged Crode di Re Laurino. On an easy path that cuts diagonally across the scree, you will quickly reach the Santner Pass refuge. The return takes place along the same route as the outward journey. It is possible to return to our structure directly by public transport, free with the Val di Fassa Guest Card, or by private taxi or by car. – RODA DE VAEL EXCURSION
Description: from our house you can reach Vigo di Fassa (12.5km)
Route with a superb panorama: we will in fact reach the Roda di Vael refuge, in the Catinaccio group, via various paths, starting from the magnificent Ciampedie plateau, and thus being able to enjoy splendid views of the Fassa Dolomites mountains. The route can also be done in different ways: one of the various classic versions to reach the refuge will be shown below, while another one will be proposed in the video.
From Vigo di Fassa you first go up to the mountain station with the Ciampedie cable car up to the refuge of the same name. Here the excursion starts and immediately you can enjoy splendid panoramic views of the Catinaccio, the Marmolada and the Vallaccia. After the refuge, in an easterly direction, the path leads first in the direction of Pra Martin, a little downhill inside the “Negritella”. Here, on the dirt road, keep to the left and follow trail no. 545 for the Roda di Vael refuge. The path to follow is now the Alta Via della Val di Fassa, which at first runs almost flat and crosses some ski slopes. Soon you can see the towers of Roda di Vael, with the refuge of the same name at its foot. Now the route becomes steeper, it is advisable to keep to trail no. 545, in order to reach the “Mandra di Vael” plain at the foot of the Mugoni. This point is ideal for a comfortable stop to catch your breath. From here, always follow trail no. 545 and, crossing a steep expanse of debris, you reach the Roda di Vael refuge on the Ciampaz saddle, with its legendary panorama. The return takes place along the same route as the outward journey.
